Fighting Words: Mercury Square Mars

Mars is the god of war. Mars severs and separates, cuts and burns. Mars is fighting, fornicating and following your baser instincts. In other words, Mars brings the heat. Mercury, the winged messenger, is the megaphone, and in hard aspect to Mars, it puts us all on blast.

There's a mental sharpness, speed, and a rash and brash approach to communication, and you may be much more inclined to oppositional behavior, and to rebel against injustice - real or imagined. You may feel frustrated, agitated, easily triggered and on the offensive.

Conflict is catalyzing, when warranted, and tension can be generative. This Mars square Mercury can catalyze you to act in your own best, highest interest. If, historically, you've found it difficult to assert yourself, and have had a more "go along to get along" approach, this transit may actually be hugely helpful in terms of self-advocacy, impelling you to speak up and act on what you hold most dear.

If you're able, ground the heat in your belly down through your feet, deep down into the earth. Center yourself in your most deeply held values. Give compassion to your sword-and-shield wielding protective inner parts, and remind them they are safe. Extend some grace to the people you come into contact with, who may be more volatile, tense and frustrated at this time.

Advocate for something meaningful, stand in your power, speak what is necessary into being.

If called or called upon, say what's working, what isn't, what you need more or less of, what you will give, what you will not... and then back it up with decisive, grounded action.

Witness yourself as you feel the Martial heat rising to your throat to make war.

Just notice.

How does it feel? How would you like to intentionally channel this heat for the impact you desire? How would you like to speak (Mercury) and act (Mars) from a place of agency and sovereignty? Because you get to choose your own adventure.

This is a time for practicing how to work through conflicts and issues you may have been afraid to confront up until this point. How to make your primal, animal nature conscious, how that animal wants to express itself through you, how to responsibly conduct the flow of lifeforce energy coursing through you. Use this transit to connect with the part of yourself who is a warrior of integrity, who will fight for what is worth fighting for. (Not everything is actually worth fighting for.)

This is a tense, defining time and these are valuable lessons. Practice in the context of your daily mundane, but mind your business and your manners.
Don't be an asshole.
